No doubt, riding the school bus is a scary thing – and not just for the kids. Parents every day put their children in the hands of a person driving some sixty screaming children down the road to school. It’s not an easy task for anyone. And just to be clear, riding a school bus is the safest mode of transportation there is to get children to and from school.

The summer is coming to an end and the first day of school will soon be here. Your children might already be complaining about returning, but you can help them look forward to the day instead. Use some of these first day of school survival tips to help your child do more than survive their first day – help them to thrive.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Your children may have gotten used to staying up late and sleeping in during the summer months. Wake them when they’ll need to get up. This will help them be more ready to get to bed and rise at the right time the first day of school.

Dress in Comfortable Clothes

The night before the first day of school, have them bathe or shower before going to bed. Help them pick out what they’ll wear, making sure it is loose so they’ll be comfortable sitting in the classroom all day. Gather their shoes and socks so they’ll be easy to find to get dressed in the morning. Continue reading

Help Your Child Overcome Fears about SchoolSchool can be very scary thing for kids, for some more so than others. And lately with the seemingly non-stop rash of school violence, it might seem even harder to help your child cope with the fear of going to school. But children need to attend school, so you have to help ease those fears. Here are ten ways to help your child overcome his or her fears about school.

How to Help Your Child Overcome Fears about School

1. It’s important to know that fears about school are very common. So don’t dismiss your child’s fears. Let him (or her) know that many experience similar fears. However, it’s important to talk about it to make sure there’s not something more going on – like maybe a bully or some sort of abuse. This is rare, but that’s why it’s important to not be dismissive of your child’s fears and be open to communication.

2. Make sure your child is taking care of the basics. Eating and sleeping are still important. Continue reading
