For many people, fall feels like a new start near the end of the year. You transition from summer vacation to fall productivity, the weather changes, holidays are approaching, and it is the start of the 4th quarter of the year. This all means it is the perfect time for a new daily routine.
Morning vs. Nighttime Routines
Before you work on your daily routines in the fall, you will need to choose between altering your morning or nighttime routine, or both. Think about what you do each day in the morning, versus what you do in the evening. Does one of them need more work than the other?
For example, if your days always start off chaotically and by the time you get to work, you are completely stressed out, you probably need to adjust your morning routine.
On the other hand, if you are having trouble sleeping and always go to bed way too late, it’s your nighttime routine that you need to adjust.
Upgrade Your Current Routine
Once you have decided which daily routine to focus on, you can then start thinking of ways to upgrade it. What is giving you the most problem, where do you need improvements, what are you trying to add every day for your health and happiness?
You can probably come up with a short list of things that are just not right in your current routine, whether that means you don’t have time to journal, or you feel too rushed in the morning. This is usually a good place to start.
Do Something You Have Been Putting Off
As you begin starting a new routine in the fall, it is also a great time to do something you have been putting off. Maybe there is a local fitness class you have wanted to try, a DIY project you have the supplies for but haven’t made yet, or a book you really want to read that it sitting on your desk. Take the time to plan these activities into your daily routine this fall.
Consider Both Physical and Mental Health
When it comes to daily routines for your overall happiness and wellness, it should be for both your physical and mental health. These are equally important, and can both be impacted by the choices you make every day. Try to add at least one activity to your routine for your physical health, and one for your mental or emotional health.
For example, food you eat, physical exercise, and drinking more water are all good for your physical health. Writing in a journal or planner, meditating, and mindfulness are all good for your mental health.
