A site for my favorite season!

Although it’s officially fall and still rather warm, before we know it we’ll be enjoying brisk cool air and beautiful fall foliage. There are some home makeover ideas that you might want to tackle to get your home ready for fall.

The fall season is filled with so many bright and vibrant color combos that make the home really cozy. Orange, reds, and yellow really signify fall, so you really want to use these bold color combos to spruce up your home.

Make use of some traditional fall foliage and vegetables, things like cornucopia and pumpkins, to adorn your home. Here are some tasks to add to your “honey do” list.

To begin your fall makeover, putting a festive wreath on your door is a good start. Make it out of some of the fall foliage and use the most vibrant-colored leaves. Mix it up with lots of reds, yellows, and oranges. It will really bring the fall feel to the outside of your home.

Take some time to spruce up your deck or patio. It might not have seen a lot of use during the hot summer days. Give it a good sweep and cleaning. Add a table and chairs. Include some throw pillows and blankets to cuddle up and enjoy the brisk fall air, especially in the evening.

If you can find a nice indoor/outdoor rug with some red, orange, and yellow in it, that will make a nice addition. Use some mini pumpkins and fall foliage to decorate the table. Don’t forget about those few lingering mosquitoes, though; put a citronella candle out there so you aren’t bugged so much by the bugs.

Bring the outside inside, at least with the colors. Add some cozy throw pillows in those vibrant fall colors to your living room. Put down plush rugs with rich warm patterns. Oriental, Persian, and wool carpets are perfect for this time of year.

Changing the drapes and adding adornments with tassels or fringing as tie backs can really change a room. This will make entertaining cozier when the nights get too cool to sit on your patio.

If you have a mantel, you know Christmas isn’t the only time you can decorate that. Add some pumpkins and cornucopia to the mantel to give it that autumn feel. Add a few candles to the mix too and make a beautiful fall display.

Speaking of candles, fall is the perfect time to put these to use. With the nights being longer, you can save on your electric bill by lighting candles at dusk instead of using the lights. So get your matches ready and have plenty of candles to light. It gives a nice ambiance to the room too.

Don’t forget the bedroom. Change the bedding to some warm flannels. A duvet cover filled with down is the most warm and inviting thing you can put on a bed in the fall.

And the seasons aren’t all about what we see, but about what we can smell, too. Bring in the wonderful scents of the outdoors in the fall with candles or air fresheners. If you’re so inclined, your own cooking is the perfect way to get the apple and cinnamon smell in your home.

Or, just collect dried out things like cinnamon sticks, hazelnut, clove, orange, and lavender and place them in a bowl with a few drops of oil to spread these natural scents around your home. This will give your home the look and feel of fall.

Are you ready for the cool nights and warm colors of fall yet?
